Montjuïc Castle: A Balcony to the History of Barcelona

This spectacular itinerary (which includes entrance to el Patio de Armas and a roundtrip ticket with the Montjuïc cable car) is the first of its kind to be offered in Barcelona.

For over 350 years, Montjuïc Castle has played a decisive role in the history of Barcelona. As a symbol of submission, after the defeat in 1714, their guns have continuously bombarded the city and its inhabitants. Used as a jail and torture center for over three centuries, its black history concluded dramatically with the shooting of its President Lluís Companys on October 15, 1940.

This itinerary seeks to contribute to the reacquisition of the civic space through remembering its many stories. Surrounded by its walls and moats, we can explore both Barcelona´s relationship with the castle and the castle’s relationship with its environment, in order to explain the city from a unique perspective.
