The Monumental Mercè: Tour around a Neighborhood Full of History and Heritage

After sharing with you the stories of other neighborhoods in Ciutat Vella, Itinera Plus takes you to discover the monumental heritage of the Mercè district.

With this new route, we will take you through the narrow streets of the old quarter of Framenors and visit the church of La Mercè, patron saint of Barcelona. We will trace the footsteps of the order in which it was named Mercè, and imagine the smells and sounds of the artisans who practiced and created the traces of its medieval past.

We will visit the palaces which are now inhabited, but try to recreate the feeling and space of those people who once lived there. During the tour, we will go into the mystery of the Templars, remember Miguel de Cervantes, members of the nobility such as Larrard and Cervelló and relive the life of people, such as the sailors, burgesses, as well as admire the medieval and Baroque art that helped shape the personality of this cozy neighborhood full of legends and heritage.
