Roman Barcelona

Barcelona stands impressively with over 2,000 years of history. As the heir of the Roman Empire, it still retains its splendor that is now hidden beneath our feet in its first chapter. This preservation is very rare because of legal constraints and demands for construction, especially in a city the size of Barcelona. This route looks to return to Barcelona’s Roman foundation in order to follow the origins of its history - its first citizens, the historical context, the uses of public and private space and the most important roots and traditions that have endured in our western culture. We will talk about the language, the Roman right, the customs and the politics - but overall we will focus on the daily life, work and our illustrious ancestors. The itinerary includes a guided tour in underground archaeology where you will be able to see the ruins firsthand as they were centuries ago. Along with the ancient remains, we visit the Temple of Augusto with the monument of “la Plaça del Rei” at the historical museum of the city of Barcelona.

In this same place we can also see the remains of one of the oldest and most important Episcopal Churches in Europe which will tell us the origin of Christian rituals in our city.
